February - New camera, new start

Writer: Anna KennyAnna Kenny

Within this one weekend, two contrasting days of weather to put the new Nikon Z6 along with the Sigma 150-500mm and the Nikon Nikkor Z 28mm f/2.8 to the test!

For the camera geeks, I will be writing a more in depth review of my new gear at a later stage when I have fully got to grips with the mirrorless system and using a telephoto lens manually. This weekend was about enjoying being back outdoors with a camera in my hand, capturing the beautiful wildlife and landscapes around the South West.

Day 1 - 8th February 2025 - Heading out to Poole park, the place was busy with park run and the weather was cloudy and dark. So I focused on getting some shots of the friendly swans. Both the wide angle and telephoto preformed well with the Nikon Z6 and produced some lovely crisp images despite the lack of light.

I actually really enjoy photographing in cloudy, flat light as you don't have to worry so much about photographing against the light.

Day 2 - 9th February 2025 - A crispy, cold, bright morning! I brought a tripod with me and put the video settings to the test on the telephoto lens. The views around Stanpit Marsh in Christchurch were stunning and the golden winter light was lush. I also headed to the New Forest to take some shots of the horses. Watch the Youtube video below to find out how it went!
